BSTFC Update (23/09/12)
September 23rd, 2012
It was “Cup Fever” for two of the BSTFC Teams this weekend with both the A & B Teams playing in their respective league cup matches.
The A Team played at home to Fishponds Athletic in the first round of the GFA Minor Cup. Playing against a team from a higher division was always going to be a tough challenge, but the Hornets deservedly took the lead through in-form Paul Zambrzycki on 35 mins. The lead only lasted a short while though, as Fishponds instantly hit back to make the score 1-1 at half-time. Fishponds took a 2-1 lead shortly into the second half but Adam Townsend hit back to level the scores at 2-2. A defensive error gifted Fishponds a third goal and, with time running out, it looked like the Hornets would not get the result their performance deserved. However, with time running out, Sam Cleaver scored a dramatic equaliser to send the game to the drama of a penalty shoot-out. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, and Bradley Stoke eventually succumbed to a 5-4 loss in the shoot out. Hornets’ skipper Adam Townsend was awarded the Man of the Match award.
The B Team were also unfortunate in their game as they went down 4-3 to Stockwood Wanderers Reserves in the Primary (South) Cup. The goals came from Mo Amin, Dan Pickering and Matt Burch.
Back to league action and the 1st team were playing Talbot Knowle at Frys in Keynsham. So far this season the 1st Team have felt hard done by, with good performances not being rewarded with victory. However, this was far from the case this weekend after a horror performance from the side saw them losing 4-0 by half time. After a stern talking to during the break from manager Jon Welsh, the BSTFC side did mange to pull one goal back after a Beckham-esq free kick from Craig Potter 20 yards out was lifted over the wall and curled in the top left of the goal leaving the Talbot keeper routed to the spot. That joy was short lived however, as miscommunication between BSTFC keeper Brendan Wilson and Potter saw the latter heading the ball over Wilson into his own net. 5-1 was how the scoreline finished with the BSTFC team knowing they must do better in the next game as they play Seymour Utd Res in the cup.
