Could you make a difference to the life of a child?
February 13th, 2014Can you remember the Chernobyl disaster back in April 1986? The population of Belarus can never forget.
Their people are suffering more than ever from the legacy of the world s worst nuclear disaster the radioactive fallout was 90 times greater than Hiroshima. The World Health Organisation has classified 500,000 of the children as being at risk .
The Chernobyl Children s Lifeline was founded by Victor Mizzi M.B.E. in 1991. Building on his example, we are bringing a group of 16 children from Belarus this summer for a month s respite care.
It is estimated that a month staying with a family here, eating nourishing food, resting from the relentless radiation and breathing clean air can add up to two years to their life expectancy.
Could you share your home with two 10-12 year old children for two weeks during summer 2014? There is a network of support for host families you would not be on your own. The children will be encouraged to participate in the activities we will organise on their behalf. These activities range from sports to the arts, from local visits to coach trips to the sea or country. There will be two interpreters with the group and they are on hand around the clock should there be any language difficulties.
If you are unable to get to one of our meetings, but think that you can help us help these children please call Andy March: 07812 159942, Ann Coales: 0117 949 8496, or visit our web site at www.ccll.org.uk/bristol
