Dedicated Scout Leader Alison Emsley Honoured with Top Adult Award

An assistant Scout leader from Stoke Gifford has been recognised for her outstanding dedication and service, receiving one of the highest awards in adult Scouting.

Alison Emsley, of the 1st Stoke Gifford OSR Scout Troop, was presented with the honour by the Avon County Scouts Deputy Lead Volunteer during a special moment in front of the troop on their return following the Easter break. The award celebrates Alison’s tireless commitment and the significant impact she has made on both the Scouts and the wider community.

A valued volunteer, Alison plays a vital role behind the scenes. She is known for sewing practical plate bags used on troop camps to store eating equipment, helping ensure smooth and organised outdoor experiences for young people. In addition, she regularly collects unwanted clothing for reuse and recycling for troop fundraising, and works alongside others to provide catering for camps and cooking sessions—often taking on responsibilities that go unseen but are essential to the troop’s success.

Her contribution extends far beyond Scouting. Alison is deeply involved in her local church, where she is an active member of the choir and a familiar face supporting others in the community. Known for her kindness and generosity, she frequently runs errands and offers help wherever it is needed. Remarkably, Alison has continued to give her time and energy despite recently recovering from major surgery, demonstrating a level of resilience and commitment that has inspired those around her. When she does find a moment to relax, Alison is a devoted supporter of the Bristol Bears, following the team with enthusiasm.

Fellow leaders and Scouts alike expressed their admiration, with many echoing the same sentiment—no one quite knows how she manages to fit it all in!
