Gardening for Schools

Almondsbury Garden Centre is helping local schools get green-fingered.   The independent family run garden centre is re-launching its ‘Grow at School scheme, where local schools can apply for seeds, plants and equipment to encourage pupils to get out into the garden.

Schools within a 20 mile radius of the Garden Centre simply need to visit http://www.parkgardencentres.co.uk/group/grow-at-school-application.php    and complete the application form and tell Almondsbury Garden Centre all about their gardening projects, as well as their ideas for the future.   “We all know that times are difficult, but we want all gardening projects and after school clubs to continue.  The idea behind the scheme is to create a gardening legacy where pupils begin to try things at home with their families ” adds Richard Truscott, Marketing Manager.

One such projects that Almondsbury Garden Centre has supported over the last 2 years is Wheatfield Primary School.   Almondsbury Garden Centre began to support Wheatfield Primary School when asked if they could pay a visit to see if there was anything they could do to help.   Vicky Mckeown, Teaching Assistant at Wheatfield Primary, explains more: “Almondsbury Garden Centre have been helping with our gardening project for two years now, from supplying compost on a monthly basis to helping our pupils in the Garden on a Wednesday afternoon, their support has been fantastic.   The team at Almondsbury could not be more helpful and supportive to ensuring that our gardening club can continue. ”    

Grow at School is not restricted to schools, the scheme also supports community groups, charities and playgroups.   The Grow at School project application process is open until the 25^th October.   “We want young people to see the benefits of sustainability and we will work with them along the way.   We want to give schools and their pupils the opportunity to grow their own plants, vegetables and fruits and keep a diary of what they have achieved so we can show the wider community the successes of our young local gardeners ” added Richard Truscott, Marketing Manager.
