First Wins for 1st & B Teams (29/09/12)

There were some good results this weekend for the Bradley Stoke Teams as the 1st Team and B Team picked up their first wins of the season.  The 1st Team were playing Seymour United Reserves in the GFA Junior Cup (South).  With the team currently suffering from an injury crisis, manager Jon Welsh had to shuffle his team around in this cup match as he still looked for his first win of the season.  Bradley Stoke started strong and showed their intentions as they piled pressure straight on to the Seymour defence.  The 1st Team thought that they had got an early goal within the first 5 minutes when a shot from Nick Favell could only be pushed onto the bar by former BSTFC keeper Jamie Dalgliesh.  With the ball falling in front of goal Bradley Stoke striker Adam Sykes swooped in and from an awkard bounce headed the ball in.  However, the Seymour keeper was able to catch the ball with what looked like to everyone a foot behind the line but, as with the rest of the season so far, the officials ruled against Bradley Stoke and no goal was given. Undeterred, Bradley Stoke continued to pressure the away team’s goal with wingers Andy Turner and Lucas Entoundi causing the Seymour defence trouble all afternoon.  Eventually the Hornets were able to turn pressure into goals as Entoundi made a strong run to the by line and pulled the ball back for Sykes to volley home.  The Hornets were 2-0 up after Andy Hurrell threaded a neat pass through to Turner who very calmly took one touch and slid the ball into the back of the net to score his first goal for the team since joining in the summer.  With the confidence of the home team rising they soon grabbed a third as Turner turned provider as his cross eventually fell to Sykes who scored his second.  In the second half Bradley Stoke came out looking to kill the game off, however Seymour had started to raise their game and created chances of their own but Nathan Corney playing in goal for the home team was able to stop anything thrown at him.  Eventually the home side did get their fourth and after failing to score a number of chances through the afternoon Entoundi eventually bagged himself a goal after a pass from Brad Clark. The match finished 4-0, with BSTFC progressing to the next round where they will play  Downend Forresters  away on the 3rd November.

Not such good news for the Reserves who lost in their GFA Intermediate Cup match against Real Thornbury with the match at 2-1 to Thornbury at half time and the Reserve side playing some good football.  A quick succession of goals from the away side saw them eventually lose 6-1.

The A Team  (right) were in action in the league as they faced Greyfriars Athletic B at home in what was a 6 goal thriller.  The score finished 3-3 which saw Greyfriars miss a 90th minute penalty when James Greenough was judged to have committed a foul in his own box and resulted in him being sent off.
A great result for the B Team who also won their first match of the season.  They once again played Broadwalk, who had previously beaten them 7-3 earlier in the season.  However, this time Steve Kerton’s young side picked up the win 3-1 with two goals coming from Sean Watts and the other goal being scored by Dan Wren.
