Local Lions have played their part in keeping the GWAAC helicopter flying
November 18th, 2015
Bradley Stoke Lions visited the Great Western Air Ambulance base in November to see the helicopter, it s crew and to hear about the fantastic life-saving work that GWAAC carry out.
The visit was very enjoyable and the Lions were very impressed by the modest medical team and pilot. Lions President Ailsa Young took pleasure in presenting a cheque for £500 to help this essential work continue.
It costs £2.3million a year to keep GWAAC operational, and they receive no day to day funding from the Government or National Lottery. Therefore the support of groups like the Bradley Stoke Lions is vital to ensure that this life saving service can continue.
Community fundraising coordinator Ella Mayne said: We re so grateful to the Bradley Stoke Lions for their generosity and support. We rely on the people we serve to help us stay operational. The money raised will help us to provide critical care to those who need it the most saving more lives.
GWAAC has been providing an air ambulance service for 2.1 million people across the counties of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, North Somerset and parts of Wiltshire for 7 years. Find out more at www.gwaac.com.
Lions raise money through a variety of fundraising events each year in order to help in the local community. They felt that the GWAAC was an excellent use of this money donated by local people. Lions enjoy helping others and but also get together for social events and evenings, ie a Pudding Night, (starter and main courses are avoided to get straight to the puddings).
