Who am I?

Oliver O Flaherty, 17 years old and a motorcycle racer.   I live in Downend, Bristol and study at SGSCollege, Filton.

Motorcycle racing is my passion and I have been involved in different forms of motorsport for many years.   I am dedicated to being a successful motorcycle racer, committed, hardworking, professional in my approach and very ambitious!   My ultimate goal is to race at the highest level of competition – MotoGP

I completed my first season in motorcycle road racing in 2014 Aprilia Superteens Challenge – a highly competitive series where all successful British racers begin their careers – and have now been chosen for the KTM British Junior Cup.

What s happening in 2015?

For 2015 I will be competing in the Santander Consumer Finance KTM RC390 British Junior Cup which runs alongside the MCE British Superbike Championship.   This new championship is designed to produce British champions for the world stage.   Each of the 8 event/20 races will be televised on ITV and British Eurosport, with races at Silverstone, Thruxton, Brands Hatch, and other major circuits around the UK.

We will be collecting my brand new race bike in the next couple of weeks.   The bike will be prepared by Fowlers Motorcycles and my first chance to ride it at racing speeds will be in early March at the MalloryPark race circuit in Leicestershire.   This test session is vital so I can get the bike set up for my riding style.   URM Racing of Keynsham will be helping me to set up the race suspension which is very important for fast lap times.   As the Santander Consumer Finance KTM RC390 British Junior Cup is a brand new race series there is a special media launch day at Donington Park Grand Prix circuit at the end of March, just a week before the first rounds of the championship at DoningtonPark again, over the Easter weekend.

My target in 2015 is to finish in the top six in this major championship series.   With the right support, my own hard work and a bit of luck, this can be done.   Motorcycle racing at this level is expensive so it would be great to hear from local companies who would like to be involved in my racing and take advantage of the great promotional opportunities, including TV exposure.

So, the countdown to my first race of the season has well and truly started.   While not racing I m making sure I m fully fit and ready with running and cycling training.     Here s to a really successful 2015 racing season.
