Mixed Bag of Results for BSTFC at start of season

All four Bradley Stoke Town teams began their new season at the start of September, however it has been a mixed bag of results.

The First Team began their season at the Jubilee Centre on a Tuesday evening with a 2-1 defeat to Rangeworthy. Two second half goals in quick succession from the visitors shocked the home side and left them with a mountain to climb. In darkening conditions, Chris Hughes pulled a goal back with a trademark header, but it wasn t enough for Stoke, who now have to look to Saturday for their first points.   The team fared better in their second game of the season with a 3-2 win again the Mendip Utd Reserves.   Adam Hay came on as a late substitute and secured victory for the first team with the last kick of the game. With the scores level at 2-2, Adam Townsend gathered possession with his back to goal and layed it to Brad Clark, whose first time throughball was met by Hay who sent the keeper the wrong way with a clever finish.

It has been a hot and cold start for the Reserves, who lost their opening game to local rivals Greyfriars Athletic ‘A but bounced back with a 3-0 win against Lawrence Rovers Reserves in a midweek fixture.   A brace from substitute Sam Peplow and another for Hughes secured the points for Craig Tucker s team, who this season are expecting to be pushing for promotion. Fortunes went the other way once more with a 3-0 defeat to Fishpond Athletics.

Elsewhere, the A Team got off to a fantastic start with a 5-3 win over Brimsham Green. Harry Issacs was the star man after he opened the scoring with a left footed strike, and then finished the scoring with a stunning curling effort from outside the box.   In between Issac s goals, Paul Zambrzycki, Adam Gardiner and Vish Misra all opened their accounts, with Gardiner s low strike the pick of the bunch.   Two matches laters and A s are on their third consecutive win, with defeats over Stapleton Reserves (2-1) and then Yate Athletic (4-3).

The B Team s season began and then quickly stopped, after the game had to be abandoned due to an injury. That game is to be rescheduled later in the season.   They then had a 4-2 defeat to Westerleigh, before securing a storming 10-1 victory over Whitchurch Phoenix.

With four teams playing regular games there should always be someone to support on a Saturday afternoon down at the Jubilee Green playing fields.   Your support on the sideline would be very much appreciated and you are welcome to join the team for a drink in the Hornet s Nest (the bar at the Jubilee Centre) afterwards.
