Start of season losses for BSTFC
September 4th, 2012
It was not the start Bradley Stoke Town wanted as all three teams playing at the weekend suffered defeats.
The Reserves went down 3-2 against Made for Ever Reserves, the ‘A’ Team lost 4-0 to new outfit Cesson and the ‘B’ Team lost 7-3 to Broadwalk.
In The Reserves’ away game (in which they were wearing their new kit provided by new sponsors Bradley Stoke Matters!) Sam Chillcott grabbed both goals yet despite a large amount of possession, they were undone by three long balls that resulted in conceded goals. Despite the loss, there were positives performances for The Reserves, and manager Ben Pearce identified a number of players who played well, including Man of the Match, James Holbrook.
The A Team played away to Cesson, at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex. The team started brightly and were probably the better side for the first 25 minutes. However, the Hornets conceded a goal against the run of play on 25 minutes and the players heads immediately started to drop. Cesson begin to take control of the game and profited from a number of errors in the Bradley Stoke defence and scored two goals in quick succession, to make the score 3-0 at half-time. After some half-time soul searching, the A Team played much better in the second half, but were unable to prevent Cesson scoring a fourth goal. The game finished Cesson 4 Bradley Stoke Town A 0. One of the few positives taken from the game was the performance of Graeme Marshall, who was deservedly awarded Man of the Match.
Steve Kerton’s opening game in charge of the ‘B’ side was also started with a loss, after conceding an early goal they equalised soon after thanks to the impressive Sean Watts. Although mistakes proved costly as Broadwalk, who are currently viewed as one of the favourites to win the division scored a quick couple of goals and went in at half time 4-1 up. The start of the second half saw Broadwalk further extend their lead to 5-1 but the B Team did not give up. A further goal from Watts and goal from Dan Wren saw the scoreline at 5-3. However, any hopes of a comeback were soon dashed as Broadwalk converted a further two chances to make the final score 7-3. With a young side having an average age of 20 there are a lot of promising signs for the B Team and their future with the pick of the players Sean Watts picking up the Man of the Match award.
