Students Encouraged to Look at Choices Early
September 25th, 2014
Students currently in their last year of secondary school are being encouraged to look at their options for next year from now. With many events taking place up until Christmas there are many different routes that year 11 learners can take.
From apprenticeships to A levels and vocational routes, some youngsters find it difficult to get their head around the different options. Careers Advisers are of great assistance but it often helps to just go and have a look and to talk to the right people.
Ambitions is one of the biggest events in the South West which provides learners with up to date course and progression information in a fun and interactive way. This year there are two events taking place in Bristol and Gloucestershire. The first is at UWE s Exhibition and Conference Centre, Bristol on Tuesday 21st October from 4.30pm-8.30pm and the second at Stratford Park Leisure Centre, Stroud on Wednesday 12th November from 4.30pm-7.30pm.
One of the main sponsors and organisers of Ambitions is South Gloucestershire and Stroud College who also have open events throughout the year. The first event is taking place on Saturday 4th October where potential students can get a taste of what further education is really like. The College are offering course information on the day, campus tours as well as the chance to try out activities that are part of the courses. The day runs from 10am-1pm and there is also a careers adviser on site to help those that are really unsure of the path to take.
Vice-Principal at SGS College Sara-Jane Watkins explains: Open days are a great opportunity for young people to gain as much information as they can about choices and options for next year. With our fully trained careers advisers on site, it is a great opportunity for potential learners to come and gain clarity on how they want to move forward with their education.
At SGS you get a feel for the atmosphere and can also speak with teachers who can tell you more about the subjects and opportunities available.
