What a way to start a new year….with a new name!
January 13th, 2015
It was a pleasure to be invited to the name change breakfast of Bristol Aztec Rotary Club on Friday 2nd January. The Club has been working in the Bradley Stoke area since 1997 and has achieved a significant amount both locally and abroad. However, it was felt that they could do so much more if the local community were aware of them. To become more synonymous with the area in which they aim to thrive, the club will now be known as Bradley Stoke Rotary Club. Individuals and representatives from organisations whom they have worked with previously or hope to build relationships with in the future attended the breakfast to celebrate the new chapter of the club.
Peter Randal, one of the local Club’s founders, was presented with “The Paul Harris Award” after breakfast. Paul Harris was the original founder of Rotary International and this award is rarely presented but Peter, a past President of Bristol Aztec 1999-2000, has given unstinting service to Rotary and has also been the club’s Secretary since 2011.
Bob Warne, Senior Vice President of the local branch, paid tribute to Peter before Phil King (Founder President of the local branch) his award. Peter was totally unaware that he was to receive the award as submissions to Rotary International are in strict confidence. Phil King also presented the new Bradley Stoke Rotary regalia to Roger Worth (President), Bob Warne and Karen Holley (Junior Vice President).
The Club supports charity abroad too and has links with Rotary clubs elsewhere in the world. In South Africa, the club is involved with the Rainbow Dreams Trust. Recently Bob spent a few weeks in South Africa where they have helped set up a crèche in order for mothers to go out to work and a Garden Allotment Programme so that people in the Townships can grow their own vegetables. Bob received a Thank You Certificate from the Constantia Rotary Club whilst there and so presented this to the current President for the club.
